The skills gap remains a critical obstacle to South Africa’s advancement. UCT wants to graduate more spirited and educated citizens who are able to think critically and innovatively, and go on to make a vital contribution to the development of a healthy, democratic and equitable society.
For many students, a place at UCT would be an unrealisable dream without financial support. The Distinguishing UCT Campaign will boost the university’s student financial aid program, enabling more students to access not only tuition but also a place in residence.
Experience shows that the academic success rate for students from disadvantaged backgrounds in residence accommodation is significantly higher than for those who commute from township environments.
